News from the South African Wagyu Industry

25-Sep-2019

John recently travelled to South Africa and observed many promising changes within the Wagyu industry.  The South African Wagyu industry genetic origins are from Australian herds.  The primary driver was Brain Angus ~10 years ago, quickly followed by others.  The herd size has substantially grown, with several companies now feeding F1 Wagyu cattle and marketing under private meat brands.  The South African domestic market (180-240kg carcass) has also changed, increasing numbers of private brands.
